 Often considered one of the best players inthe world Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born in a poor family in Funchal, Portugal. Overcoming hardship and tough financial situationin his early life Cristiano Ronaldo is now the world's highest paid athlete accordingto Forbes. He has won the FIFA Player of The Year andhas received the Ballon d'Or 4 times in his carrier till now. Scorer of more than 600 goals for club andcountry Cristiano Ronaldo had many ups and downs in his life but one thing which hasremained constant throughout in his life, is his passion to play football. "Without football, my life is worth nothing." Cristiano Ronaldo belongs from one of thepoorest area in Portugal. 

His father was gardener and a part-time kitman. It was through his father's work he was introducedto football. To help get some money for the family hismother used to work as a cook and cleaner. By the time he was 10 years old he was alreadyfamous for his skills in the game. His godfather, Freno Sousa said "All he wantedto do as a boy was play football". Rather than force ourselves to follow thepath that has been set for us, we can create our own path and achieve great heights. The path will not be easy and we have to facegreat difficulties but at the end the rewards will be equally satisfying.

When he was 12, Sporting CP which is a bigclub in Portugal signed him for a fee of 1,500 pounds. His carrier was moving up nicely when suddenlyat the age of 15, he was diagnosed with a disease called Racing Heart. Racing Heart is a heart problem where theheart beat is more than that of a normal person even while resting. The doctors said that he should not play anymorebecause this is a serious problem among sportsmen and many footballers had already died beforedue to this problem. But Ronaldo did not give up and decided toundergo an operation so that he can continue to play football. 

At the age of 15 Ronaldo successfully completedhis operation and even returned to training within a few days. This is the sign of a true player. He has set an example for the young boys whomight have a similar condition and are football lovers. If he had not shown strength at that youngage it might have been the end of his football career. Ronaldo worked hard and impressed everyonewith his skills. At the age of 16 he made his debut in theFirst team of Sporting CP and caught everyone's attention. At the age of 17 Manchester United signedhim for 15 million euros which was the highest paid transfer amount at that time for a teenager. Ronaldo reached new heights in Manchesterand won numerous awards and titles including PFA Player of the Year Award, European Playerof the Year, and FIFA World Player of the Year. In 2009, he broke another record by becomingthe World's most expensive football player, after transferring from Manchester Unitedto Real Madrid in a �80 million pounds transfer.

Once Ronaldo told a British newspaper, �Myfather always taught me that when you help other people, then God will give you double,And that's what has really happened to me. When I have helped other people who are inneed, God has helped me with more. Once Ronaldo received a request, for a donationof football boots and t-shirts to help raise 83,000 dollars for a 10-month-old in needof an operation. Ronaldo not only donated the items, but alsopaid for the operation. He also donated for different charities aroundthe world and also is the Global Artist Ambassador for Save The Children charity . During 2004when he saw footage of a young Indonesian tsunami victim wearing his No. 7 Portugaljersey. Ronaldo immediately flew to Indonesia, toraise money to help the country rebuild.
